NTUA CONTRIBUTION OF THE PROJECT

Computational Mechanics Laboratory (CoMLab) belongs to the Systems Analysis and Design Department of the School of Chemical Engineering, at National technical University of Athens. The Unit has developed research collaboration with numerous Greek and Foreign Universities, Research Centers and Companies and it has been growing in staff and facilities mainly by its involvement in numerous national and EC funded research projects.

In this project, two platforms have been designed: the Resource Allocator and the Forest Fire Simulator :

The Resource Allocator is an application that in a server level communicates with an RDBMS (Relational Database management system) and serves the client with information that is used for allocating resources to crisis incidents. The client interface represents this information in accordance to geographical data (spatial information). Thus, a graphical presentation of the resources can be viewed through its spatial distribution. This is of outmost importance in case of an emergency for the coordination of air and ground forces. For this purpose, relevant spatial data are fed to the Google Maps interface View via the appropriate database tables. The main information for each site retrieved through the database is readiness of resources, availability and quantity of equipment used in forest- fire fighting. Other information presented on the database will be contact details of the people in charge, contingency planning details, etc.

The Forest Fire Simulator is an application that utilizes spacial information, current ambient conditions in order to simulate the evolution of a forest fire.
